Shootin' and dribblin' (and we're not talking basketball!)
Two weeks ago I decided to taste my own semen.
Right now I feel like I have a fever and also see white patches on my tongue, even though I've never had sex. Is it possible to catch HIV from your own semen?
No, it's not, just as it isn't possible to give yourself a cold by inhaling your own sneeze. Do yourself a favor and learn something about STDs – it's just as important, perhaps even more so, to learn what activities do transmit STDs.
Two years ago I had a operation to remove a dead testicle.
Will losing one testicle affect how much semen I produce? Also, my health teacher said that every normal man has one testicle filled with "female" sperm (for a girl baby) and one with "male" sperm in it (for a boy baby) – is this true?

What is the average amount of time it takes for a person to ejaculate while masturbating?
- age 19, Texas
About ten seconds, depending on where you define the "starting" and "stopping" points.
What's the average amount of semen for a 13-year-old?
I read in Lubrication that it's a few teaspoons, but I don't know what age male you were referring to. I squirt about three small squirts, but not a teaspoon.
- age 13, Michigan
Well, a teaspoon is a pretty small amount. I was giving a rough estimate – I believe the actual amount for an adult male is 2 to 3 milliliters, which isn't that much. You're probably average for your age.
When I ejaculate it feels like about a third of the seminal fluid comes out.
I don't know about the rest, but I get a ripping pain for about 4 seconds. Also, the seminal fluid is closer to a solid than a liquid – there's a thin liquid with a couple solid-like clumps of a glossy, pearly-white substance. Is something wrong with me?

When I first start masturbating, clear stuff comes out. Then I have an orgasm. What's going on?
- age 15, Florida
That's just what we call "pre-cum." It's similar to watered-down semen, with a few sperm calls, and its purpose is to lubricate and clean out the tubes inside you that carry the semen and get them ready for the ejaculation.
When I masturbate for a short time – say, 10-15 minutes – my semen is white and creamy.
But if I make it last an hour or so, as I often do, when I ejaculate it's almost like water. Why is this? Am I melting it by taking too long or something?
When you ejaculate, what should you do with the semen?
- age 15, Montana
Most guys just wipe it up with a Kleenex and throw it away.
Whenever I'm masturbating I really want to eat my semen, but when I finally ejaculate, I get grossed out by the idea.
What can I do to make myself eat it?
This is quite common. The loss of desire to eat your semen once you ejaculate goes along with the post-ejaculation loss of interest in sex in general. I don't think there's anything you can do to "make" yourself eat it. You could, of course, save your semen from the previous ejaculation and warm it in the microwave! (Whatever you do, though, don't keep it in the refrigerator in a container marked "non-dairy creamer"!)
Why does semen smell the way it does?
- age 16, Washington
There are a lot of components to semen; several glands are involved in making the components of seminal fluid, and each component has a function. I'm sure there's a scientific explanation for the smell, but it's just that one or more of the components has a characteristic smell – the same way urine has a specific smell.
